At the Special General Meeting December 19, the decision to purchase a $7,000 POS system was approved, supported by a $3,000 donation from Terry Lynn in memory of her grandfather, James Clark, an Indigenous ordinary member.

Sunday, April 27th is shaping up to be a great day at RCL Branch 138! Members can start their morning with a friendly game of washer toss (details available at the branch). Then at 1:00 PM, everyone is invited to head into the canteen for refreshments and a lively round of Music Bingo—a fun-filled afternoon of tunes, laughter, and prizes! It’s just $5.00 to play, and it’s suitable for all ages.

Whether you come for the morning game or just for the bingo, you’ll be supporting our Legion, our veterans, and our community. Everyone is welcome—bring your friends and enjoy the music!

Country Line Dancing – New May Session! 🤠🎶

Ready to kick up your heels and try something new? The next 4-week session of Country Line Dancing starts this May – and you’re invited!

Join Brandi & Heather, a.k.a. The Good-Vibe Gals, for a knee-slappin’, boot-stompin’ hour of high-energy line dancing, fun music, and great vibes. Whether you’ve never danced a step or you’ve already got a little two-step in your soul, this session is open to all – no prior experience needed!

📅 SESSION DETAILS:

Dates: Thursdays – May 8, May 15, May 22, May 29
Time: 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Location: The Merritton Legion
📍 2 Chestnut St E, St. Catharines

Introducing the Veterans’ Food Support Program

Our Legion is launching an ongoing initiative to provide essential food items to veterans in need within our community. We invite all members and guests to donate non-perishable food items whenever they visit the Legion—especially during our popular Friday meals. If you're joining us for a meal, consider bringing a donation to support veterans in need.

How You Can Help

What to Donate: Non-perishable food items such as canned fruits and vegetables, soups, stews, spaghetti sauce, baked beans, and peanut butter.
How to Donate: Place your contributions in the designated barrel at the Legion entrance or hand them to the steward on duty.
When to Donate: Donations are welcome anytime, but we encourage those attending Friday meals to bring an item each week to help sustain this initiative.

Your generosity ensures that veterans in our community receive the support they deserve. Even one item per week can make a big difference.

Donation to Humane Society of Greater Niagara

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 138 Merritton and the Ladies Auxiliary continue to show their generosity and community spirit! On February 15th, Dawn Locke and Angie Reid had the pleasure of delivering a donation of $1,135, along with much-needed supplies, to the Humane Society of Greater Niagara. The contributions will help provide care and comfort to animals in need, and as a bonus, they got to enjoy some snuggles with adorable kittens and puppies. A huge thank you to everyone who supported this effort—your kindness makes a difference!

New POS System Approved – Thank You for Your Support!

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all members who attended the Special General Meeting on December 19, 2024, and supported the approval of a new Point of Sale (POS) system for our Legion.

This significant investment of $7,000 will help modernize our operations and improve service. We are especially grateful to Terry Lynn for her generous $3,000 donation in memory of her grandfather, James Clark, an Indigenous ordinary member, whose contribution makes this upgrade possible.

Bingo Bowling - Saturday, March 22

Join us for a fun-filled "Bingo Bowling" fundraiser hosted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 138, happening on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM. This exciting event will take place at Merritton Lions 5 Pin Bowling Lanes, located at 7 Park Ave, St. Catharines, ON L2P 1P9. For just $20 per person, participants can enjoy a unique bowling experience where you play bingo with your scores—aim to get five pins or a strike in a row to win! After the bowling, head over to the Merritton Legion for a delicious beef on a bun and a chance to win fantastic prizes. Don’t miss out on this entertaining afternoon supporting a great cause!

In Memoriam – Comrade Robert “Bob Jr.” Weir (April 5, 2025)

We are saddened to share the passing of our fellow Legion member, Robert Dennis “Bob Jr.” Weir, on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Bob Jr. was a dedicated member of Branch 138, in his 30th year of membership, having joined the Legion in 1996. He will be remembered for his good nature, love of hockey, darts, billiards, and the outdoors, as well as his enduring commitment to the community.

Miscalculation of Disability Pensions Class Action Settlement

Are you a current or former member of the Canadian Armed Forces or Royal Canadian Mounted Police, or their spouse, common-law partner, survivor, dependent or executor of their estate, who received disability benefits from Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) between 2003 and 2023? If so, you may be a Class Member and qualifiable for compensation from a class action settlement related to alleged miscalculations of disability pensions and benefits.

Class Members with an existing payment relationship with VAC will automatically receive the compensation for which they are qualifiable through the usual payment process. These Class Members do not have to submit a claim form to receive payment.

Class Members who do not have an existing payment relationship with VAC must submit a Claim Form or they will not receive compensation.
